A couple of sci-fi pieces for the IFX daily sketchbook thread. Top one created with MSPaint, bottom is an experiment with textures and blending modes in Photoshop - about an hour.
The top is by far my favorite. The bottom is great and I really like how even though you used warmer colors the landscape looks cold. But the top is different, not only the program but the feel are unorthodox and contrast with the sci fi art I normally see. I also think it's great how I do not know which is more sophisticated looking. While the blending is smoother for the bottom I think the hard, scratchy blending of MSpaint really works, especially since you used cool colors for the top, which gives an ice like feel. Anyway, that was my really long comment, but I felt it deserved it.
Funny that you paired these, they're so different and it spurs you to make a judgement call as to which you like more. I think I would have liked the top one if it was viewed alone.
As for the bottom one, nice use of light. love the picture.
